City of Santa Cruz Mayoral Proclamation declares April 2024 as Arts, Culture, and Creativity Month

The arts matter in the City of Santa Cruz! At the City Council meeting on Tuesday the 9th, Councilmember Sonja Brunner presented a Mayoral Proclamation that declared April 2024 as Arts, Culture, and Creativity Month. Development Director Ami Davis from the Arts Council, along with Board Member and Arts Commissioner Valéria Miranda, Senderos Executive Director Isai Pazos, and Senderos Program Director Fe Silva–Robles, were there to accept the proclamation and share a few words about how important the arts are to our community.

Arts, Culture and Creativity Month is a celebration organized by CA for the Arts honoring the value of the arts in our state. Next week, several of us will attend the Arts, Culture and Creativity Month festivities in Sacramento. Together with Councilmember Brunner and Arts Commissioner Isabel Contreras, we’ll meet with Senator John Laird and Assemblymember Gail Pellerin to advocate for the incredible impact that the arts have on our economy, mental health, and local youth. We’re excited to partner with CA for the Arts to support this month-long spotlight on the arts, and keep spreading the message that art work is real work.
