Los últimos seis meses han estado llenos de vida, movimiento y conexión en nuestro querido Centro Artístico de Watsonville. We’ve never been busier, and the energy has been off the charts. One of the biggest highlights? Launching our very first gallery exhibit, featuring Jaime Sanchez, at the new Galleria Placita inside the Watsonville Center for the Arts—an exciting step forward for both the space and our community. A heartfelt thank you to our resident artists, Xitlali and Mario, whose creativity, energy, and commitment have been essential in bringing this vision to life and the community into the Center for a new experience.
“Your presence is more valuable than you know.”
Yesenia Molina, Gerente del Programa de Watsonville
Our Creative Commons, meetups have also been growing steadily, and we’re so thankful for everyone who’s shown up, shared space, and helped us build something meaningful together. Your presence is more valuable than you know. Join us the third Friday of every month.
Ya casi llegamos al cierre de Puertas Abiertas, nuestro programa piloto de Artista en Residencia. Designed to support emerging local artists with dedicated space, resources, and community engagement opportunities, this first round has sparked new relationships, artistic growth, and unforgettable moments that have deepened our sense of connection and purpose. One of those moments that will forever be in the memory of all the participants was witnessing a simple and very creative wedding proposal at the paint your partner event. That unexpected, beautiful gesture was a powerful reminder of how art can bring us together, and help us celebrate life, together, in community.
Whether you came out to support our artist-in-residence, vibed with a local DJ or band, danced the week’s energy away, or simply took a moment to breathe and connect—we’ve felt your presencia. Some of you have been with us every step of the way, others popped in for a night or two, but altogether, you've helped make these months unforgettable. Let’s keep the spark alive!
If you haven’t been able to join us yet—no worries, you’ve still got time! Two more incredible events are just around the corner:
🎨 Eclose, Jaime Sanchez’s solo show, wraps up with a closing reception on May 3rd at 3pm at Galleria Placita. Nos vemos ahi! Watch the artist talk here.
🖌️ Then, on June 28th from 7–9pm, don’t miss our final Sip & Sketch night with resident artist SeaTlali—it’s her last event of the residency, and it’s gonna be a vibe. Email yesenia.m@artscouncilsc.org to sign up.
Come get creative, connect, and celebrate with us. The doors are open—and the magic is just getting started.
