Staff Spotlight: Deputy Director Mireya Gomez Contreras
onNovember 5, 2023

Our Deputy Director is moving on from the Arts Council next month. Here's her message to the community:

Greetings to each of you,

This winter will be my last with Arts Council Santa Cruz County. It's a decision prompted by my growing littles, who need more time (see Camila & Sergio below) and competing professional priorities.

The news has settled in my heart. I'm working part-time through December 22, when I will officially pass the baton to Sally Green as Interim Deputy Director.

Following in the footsteps of many other creative colleagues, I don't feel 'finished' with the arts. I will continue to support a vibrant and equitable arts ecosystem, advocate for arts and culture, and offer consulting services on projects that bring me joy and allow me to work part-time on the farm at Esperanza Community Farms.

My time at the Arts Council has been the most complete professional experience to date. I am more mature in my executive skills, and I've grown a deep appreciation for the shared collective effort of a racially diverse team.

I am proud to have worked at this institution and look forward to crossing paths with you at a local festival, art class, or a public meeting!
