Inspired by the warm, creative energy of spring, the artist community at the Tannery Arts Center comes together to present the Spring Art Market on Saturday, May 10, from 10am-5pm. This annual celebration of creativity and community is a thoughtful display of locally crafted artwork, music, food, and beverages from Tannery and guest artists. All are invited to this festive, family-friendly event!
Presented by Arts Council Santa Cruz County, this free event engages artists with a platform to show and sell their work and an opportunity to be a part of something bigger - creative community. For 16 years, the Tannery Arts Center has grown and evolved into a thriving epicenter of art in Santa Cruz. A home for 28 working artist studios, galleries, shops, dance, music, theater, and public art + 100 loft apartments, the offerings at the Tannery Arts Center are diverse, educational, and inspiring.
"The Spring Art Market is more than an event — it’s a celebration of creativity, connection, and community. It’s a chance to experience the vibrant heart of the Tannery Arts Center and support the local artists who make it thrive."
Bree Karpavage, Open Studios and Tannery Arts Center Program Manager
The Tannery Arts Center is a safe space for emerging artists to experiment and grow their artistic careers, with the Arts Council offering support through professional development, grants, and events like the Spring Art Market. Newly formed Afro-Latin band, La Otra Banda, will perform live from 11am-1pm at the market, a nine-piece band playing cultural dance music to kick off the day. You’ll also get a sneak peek into Colligan Theater programming with mini theatrical performances showcasing their upcoming plays between live music sets.
Guest visual artists include Ercilia Medeiros with her vibrant paintings of local flora and fauna and Beth Truso with fine silver and gemstone jewelry. Aria McCamant-Berlin, a former Tannery studio artist, returns to share her new line of ceramics, and new studio artist Sophia Galarosa offers fresh locally farmed flower bouquets in unique hand-crafted vessels. The beautiful handmade goods at the market make the perfect gifts for the special mother or loved one in your life.
But the Spring Art Market offers more than artisan shopping. Families can explore many hands-on activities, including the kids' printmaking corner at the Printmakers at the Tannery, and a special collage craft led by loft resident Karuna Gutowski. Henna will also be offered in the Courtyard by Sacred Mud Henna and Tattoo along with live DJ music by Jason Santiago La Cour.
Many of the 28 artist studios will be open, including SALT the Store, Cosmo Chic, River Arts Studio, Suzy Rad Animal Portraits, Studio 120 & Gallery, Gallery 125, Ceramics Studio 122, and others. Radius Gallery’s current exhibit, Ancient Traditions / Modern Arts will also be open with guest artists from the Monterey Bay Metal Arts Guild and Santa Cruz Textiles Arts Guild.
We invite you to experience the art that lives here at the Tannery Arts Center! The Spring Art Market is the perfect opportunity to explore our creative campus, enjoy the music and public art, create something unique, and support local artists for Mother’s Day. Admission and parking are free - all parking lots on site will be open.
