Woven throughout Santa Cruz County are museums and galleries that have long nurtured the region’s cultural life—some for more than a century. From artist-run spaces and university galleries to community art centers and museums, these institutions have been shaping the creative identity of the county since as early as 1919.
Today, these organizations continue to support and exhibit the work of local students, educators, culture workers and artists alongside regional, national, and international voices. Across mediums, disciplines, and traditions, their programming often blends visual art, installation, performance, history, and public dialogue—creating spaces not only to view art and experience art across disciplines, but to gather, and spark curiosity.
This guide is designed to make it easier to discover Santa Cruz County’s cultural landscape and creative economy. We encourage you to click through to learn more about each venue, follow them on social media, subscribe to their newsletters and mark your calendar for upcoming exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and community events. Whether you are an artist, a visitor, or a longtime local, these institutions offer many entry points into the creative and cultural life of the region.
